Our project tackles the challenges of sustainability, inclusiveness, and aesthetics in the built environment through a platform inspired by the European Bauhaus initiative (NEB). With an annual funding pool of €120 million, this initiative motivates us, as designers, to create environmentally responsible and socially inclusive designs. Our platform bridges the gap between complex NEB guidelines and practical implementation, offering tools that simplify self-assessment and streamline access to funding opportunities.
Core Objectives
Simplify NEB Guidelines: We transform intricate, text-heavy NEB guidelines into accessible, designer-friendly tools, enabling intuitive evaluation and seamless compliance with sustainability metrics.
Optimize Early Design Stages: We focus on the early phases of design where the potential for carbon reduction is greatest, particularly on façades, which account for 17% of NEB guidelines.
Platform Overview
Data Integration: We combine NEB guidelines, both textual and quantitative, with datasets like the Building Transparency Organization’s material performance data. A graph database links materials, walls, and performance metrics, creating a cohesive system for deeper analysis.
AI-Powered Querying: Our platform uses generative AI and graph agents to interpret natural language queries, convert them into machine-readable Cypher queries, and provide actionable insights. We address complex questions about façade materials, carbon efficiency, and thermal performance, delivering results in user-friendly formats like JSON.
Workflow: We allow designers to upload their models, assign locations for weather data, and receive tailored material suggestions and performance scores for wall sections. The system evaluates compliance with NEB guidelines and provides detailed, actionable insights.
Planned Enhancements
Semantic Integration of Guidelines: We retain the textual guidelines to establish richer semantic relationships with wall data, enabling deeper contextual analysis.
Real-World Parametric Models: We aim to replace synthetic datasets with advanced parametric models that feature comprehensive, real-world parameters.
Advanced Search with Neural Language Models (NLMs): Our goal is to enable sophisticated semantic queries for nuanced and complex insights.
Impact and Vision
We are redefining how sustainability-driven tools support designers by making environmental guidelines more accessible and actionable. Our platform facilitates intuitive design optimization and fosters an interactive exchange between designers and guidelines. By aligning our projects with the European Bauhaus principles of sustainability, beauty, and inclusiveness, we empower ourselves and others to contribute to a greener, more inclusive future.
