concept
“Let’s make some noise to activate non-places!” is a project that aims to bring light and life for public places which could be potentially called as non-places in the cities. It is important to mention that non-places once was defined by Marc Augé (1994:72) as a space that can not be defined as identity, relational, or historical which brought to debate also questions about huge urban infrastructures. That could be, for example: under the bridges, airways, railways, highways, roads, that if a good urban project has not been properly developed could create create dead zones in the cities, like lonely, dark and insecure places on the urban tissue that become, per consequence, an a place that not invite people to be part of it.
How could we activate these non-places using presence, lights and noise?
The idea is to use two sensors: one sensor is for detecting people that passes under the bridge so these places could always have light on it, and other sensor could also activate it by sound and turn into different colors. The more people gather to occupy these places, the louder and the more colorful it gets as each color respond to a different level of loudness.
