In this project I tackled the challenge of reimagining the way tourists navigate through Barcelona’s bustling streets, particularly the crowded paths that define their city experience. Starting with a pedestrian simulation tool, I was able to map out the most commonly walked tourist routes (from Casa Punxes to Casa Batllo). This allowed me to then create the journey along these popular corridors using the Discretes method of automation.
By feeding PedSim data on key attractions, restaurants, and shops, I created a detailed heat map that highlighted the densest areas of pedestrian flow. This visualization showed precisely where interventions could make the most significant impact.
Building on this data, I turned to the discretes method to conceptualize a series of elevated walkways. These aren’t just any pathways but are designed to overlay the busiest sections of the tourist routes. The idea was to elevate the experience, allowing tourists to enjoy the city’s vibrant scenes without the obstructions and inconveniences caused by vehicular traffic. The elevated pathways offer a new perspective on Barcelona’s architectural marvels and lively street scenes, providing a continuous, unobstructed view from above.
