METHODOLOGY
Overlapping data and creating buffers to identify other layers of information to inform the system back again trying to prove the stereotype of media trope of policemen loving donuts and them being fueled to perform better cause of it.
DATA USED IN ANALYSIS
- New York State crime rate per county
- Locations of Police stations
- Locations of Donut shops
PROCESSES
Plotting the counties of the state of New York with the its respective police stations.
Plotting the crime rates of the following counties by cleaning and filtering the data to further overlap the information and plot its values as a monochromatic gradient of the crime rate in each county.
Also adding another layer of information by including the population density of each county to ensure which counties to focus on in terms of analysis as counties with lower population density would relatively have lower crime rate as well making them outliers in the process.
Ah well, it’s all about locations!!!
The parallel overlaying of information would be the locations of donut shops as well as police stations
Finally applying a buffer to the police stations and returning information of number of donut shops located within a buffer of 2.5 kilometers and and plotting them as police stations with higher number of donut shops and an overlap with previous layers of crime rate and population density.
CONCLUSION
As observed the stereotype stands true for the major counties of New York like Queens, Bronx, Kings and New York City, but there may be exceptions of other counties having a fairly lower crime rate with lesser donut shops around their respective police stations as well.
Various reasons might help clear out this doubt i.e :
- Coffee being the more needed fuel for keeping up efforts at late night shifts.
- Local shops being open at hours when needed as serving different more culturally local snacks than a mere and general donut
- Alot of policemen have been mindful of their diet and have made concious efforts to be careful of what they indulge in.
