The Galaxia Temple was the crown of Black Rock City at Burning Man 2018. Translating the graceful ascending curves into a facade required identifying the core components of the facade.
The rising Mandala shape is the most easily identifiable component, when one breaks down that shape it is clear the swooping curves unfurling from the center dictate the positioning of the remainder of the form. Upon further inspection, one cans see that each segment has an interior of triangular connections.
By forming those curves by dissecting an array of circles, we created the base lines. We built the interior triangular matrix by connecting points between the base curves with varying patterns of lines.
We felt that to best maintain the treasured mandala form, taking the entire shape of the pavilion and flattening it to fit the form of the building was a better approach than isolating one element from the Galaxia temple.
