Concept


Barcelona experiences intense summer heat, with prolonged sun exposure in narrow urban lanes. These linear streets, flanked by mid-rise buildings, naturally funnel airflow and create predictable sun paths.
Our aim is to design an adaptive shading systems above these corridors, which can effectively reduce ground-level heat, improve pedestrian comfort, and transform underutilized lanes into cooler, more inviting public spaces.

This adaptive behavior ensures the building envelope dynamically responds to both daily solar cycles and seasonal climate shifts, enhancing occupant comfort and environmental performance.
