We live in an age of constant information, where news spreads rapidly and surrounds us at all times. Social media notifications, breaking news alerts, and endless headlines create an overwhelming cycle. Unfortunately, negativity often dominates this flow, increasing stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue.
Why Are People Avoiding the News?
According to Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, selective news avoidance is becoming a significant trend, particularly among young people under 35, with research showing that 35% of people in Spain now avoid news sometimes or often, up from 26% in 2017. Globally, this trend has grown from 29% in 2017 to 38% in 2022. The constant exposure to negative news, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, wars, and political instability, leads to stress, anxiety, and a sense of hopelessness, prompting individuals to limit or filter their news intake for mental well-being.
Problem Statement:
Individuals require a platform that provides exclusively positive news, as conventional news sources often overwhelm audiences with negativity, adversely affecting mental health by heightening anxiety, stress, and depression.
What is Lumos?
Lumos, a Telegram bot, is designed to create a healthier news experience. Instead of avoiding global issues, it offers a balanced approach to staying informed while maintaining emotional well-being. By filtering out excessive negativity, Lumos ensures you remain connected without feeling emotionally drained. Rather than flooding you with distressing headlines, it curates neutral and uplifting stories that provide a broader, more hopeful perspective.
How does it work?
Lumos was developed using n8n for data scraping, CSV-to-graph plotting, and an AI Agent powered by OpenAI.
Once you open Lumos Telegram Bot, you have to write the name of the place from where you want to get good news and press enter. This triggers an n8n script, which begins scraping news from the specified location. The collected news articles then undergo Sentiment Analysis using AI, categorizing them into three groups: positive, neutral, and negative.
Only the positive news is selected. From these, images are generated through a ComfyUI integration, while an AI Agent summarizes the news. Finally, the summarized positive news, along with the generated images, is sent back to you via the Telegram bot as a response.
