The Future of Density: Rethinking the Cerda Block
How can Barcelona's iconic urban block evolve to address the social, ecological, and technological challenges shaping the future of urban life? In The Future of Density, students investigate how housing can adapt to six global challenges: climate change and energy, demographic shifts and migration, food and water security, artificial intelligence, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss. Using systemic design approaches, computational tools, and emerging AI technologies, students develop speculative housing models that rethink density as an adaptive framework for more resilient, resource-conscious, and interconnected urban communities.
