As the fourth segment in a chain of production of CLT and Timber materials, our goal was to design a building responsible for the pre-fabrication and assembling of those materials.

Concept
Manifesto
This project is an auto-replicating, self-sufficient, and carbon sequestering building; a prototype for the buildings of the future. It embodies a future oriented self-sufficient CLT factory. Its form follows the classical Barcelona chamfering and aims for a structure with high quality thermodynamics.

Materiality
We opted for the use of a CLT structure, acting as carbon sink. It minimizes the use of high emissions materials such as concrete and steel, all emissions from the material sourcing and construction are offset by the timber. The building is oriented to optimize passive thermal regulation during all seasons. Most of its energy comes from the sun. We use traditional structural ideas of vaulting with advanced computational design and fabrication.
Joinery details
On a human and community scale our building is an agent for positive change as well. The green terraces and public park space are amenities that humanize the post-industrial neighborhood of Sant Adrià de Besòs by bringing the biosphere to the city. Introducing greenspace has been empirically shown to improve human health, lower crime, and foster biodiversity. Factory workers have the opportunity to live in private apartments with an ocean view on site, providing a zero-kilometer commute and easy access to the city center via nearby public transportation.
