Over time, and after being asked this question more than once, my answer about the purpose of AI in AEC has evolved. It hasn’t changed drastically, but it definitely became clearer and more grounded.

Influence & Purpose

What influenced me the most was listening to different speakers, especially the MaCAD alumni. One talk that really stood out to me was Libny’s, where he shared his experience applying AI in his work environment. His journey felt very close to what I see myself doing in the future.
Through learning these tools, understanding automations, inputs, and outputs — from scripting to optimization — I started to realize that the real purpose of AI in AEC is not just using it, but knowing when and where to use it. AI helps us reach the best and most optimal solutions in the shortest time possible, if we understand how the machine thinks and how to work with it.

In Libny Pacheco’s case ( X-MaCAD & Co-founder of Upskiller), and his team, they understood the logic behind the tools and used that knowledge to make their workflow easier, their architecture better, and their engineering stronger. AI didn’t just improve the project outcome — it became a requirement rather than an option.
So for me, AI and any form of advanced learning is ultimately about raising the standards of architecture and engineering. It’s about knowing how to control these tools and direct them toward the right goals. And when used correctly, the impact can be incredibly powerful.
