Concept
Less Wheels, More Walks is a parametric web-based urban simulation tool that explores how shading strategies can shift street space from cars to pedestrians.
The idea started from living in Qatar, where the lack of shaded sidewalks discourages walking. Even short distances are often traveled by car. This project investigates how adding shade can encourage walkability and reduce car dependency.

The simulation analyzes either incident radiation or direct sun hours. After pressing Compute, a heatmap visualizes solar exposure while trees and parasols create shaded areas where pedestrians tend to gather.
Workflow

User Experience
Overall, the project demonstrates how simple shading strategies can help designers create more walkable streets.
And to wrap it up: every bit of shade makes our streets more walkable. So let’s keep it cool, keep it shady, and keep on walking.
