The project addresses socio-economic and environmental challenges that are faced in Marina del Pratt’s fast developing industrial area. It is a multifunctional facility, combining a climate shelter and community center, which aims to enhance local life.Recycled materials from the nearby Ecopark de Barcelona promote sustainability and will raise awareness through workshops to the enviromental challenges we are facing today, such
as global climate change and waste pollution. The addition of a green space, that acts as a community facilities, combats urban heat and reduces the carbon footprint, fostering environmental awareness and communities well-being.
CONTEXT ANALYSIS
Sants-Montjuïc is the largest district in Barcelona. The site is located at the edge of two radically different territories. The railway cuts off the main part of the area from Zona Franca – Port. Crossing the railway on foot is difficult since there are no full-fledged pedestrian roads. The site is surrounded with the only recycling factory of Barcelona and future housing developing projects . At the same time Barcelona is very centralised and you can find a lack of landmarks around the site. Regards the environmental challenges there is the railway for the containers, however it is mainly used as a storage of the transportion company and therefore arely used during the day.,unlike the motorway Ronda Litoral.
CONTEXT CONCLUSIONS
What is a climate shelter?
It is a multifunctional structure designed to provide relief from extreme weather conditions. They can vary in design and functionality, depending on their location and the specific needs of the community they serve and are designed to offer thermal comfort, water stations and greenery that provide natural shade and cooling.
FORM FINDING
2 grids around the site are overlapped to define our module: the railway and the industrial grid. They form octagonal shapes.
Midjourney explorations were used to find an inspiration and analyse the outcome. With those observations new models were created that led us to the end to thefinal module.
The structure of the module is based on Delaunay triangulation, where a set of points on a surface is connected in such way that the union of all of them equals the convex hull on which the points are located and any pair of these intersect in a common face. Following the logic of circulation, there are three types of modules: opened, trespassing and closed,; and using these logics the modules are integreted.
PROGRAM
Following the main pedestrian and road flows the location of the programs were defined accordingly. The programs were inplemeted on site and arranged accordingly, This resulted ion a dynamic workflow of spaces and based on the objectives the results were achieved.
