The Project Media class had two different focuses: video production and image production. Both are related to narrative, how videos and images are capable of telling a story and enhancing an architectural project in order to make it more powerful.
The first task we had was the video footage. In order to relate with our Urban Syntesis class, in which our group developed a building with a program that encompass housing, services, commerce and 3D Printing Industry, we decided to tell a story that goes from housing crisis in Barcelona, situation of industrial areas that are giving space for housing and leaving the cities and the current situation of 3D Printing Industry. This narrative can be seen below:
The first interview was done with a 3DPA (IAAC Program) student while they were working building their prototype made of earth. For this, we set some interviews and positioned the interviewee in front of the interviewer (Karla, one of the group members). When it comes to frame composition, we took in consideration the rule of thirds (eyes a little bit higher than the upper line) and perspective lines that point to the main subject
For the B-rolls (footage that is played before, after or during the interview and helps to add information and illustrate it) we shot some students working and some views from the prototype that already exists. In one of them, students are placing a net on top of a layer after it was printed. For this, we took advantage of the rule of thirds by placing the wall under construction on the first horizontal lower third and the extrusor on the first vertical third, creating a frame that had the students inside.
Another approach was to show the texture and materiality, so we shot Kiki’s hand moving on top of the wall, so we played with light and shadow and placed her hand in the center, also having this as the main point to observe, where perspective lines are directed.
Weeks after this shooting, we had the chance to visit DFactory, where it’s located Windforce, a company that works with 3D Printing solutions and represents Stratasys in Barcelona. On this occasion, we interviewed two employees and had the same approach we had before.
The composition aspects were similar, and we also made sure none body joinings/articulations were cut, like his elbows.
The group also tried to play in front of the camera by introducing the place we were, which can be seen below. The light that came from the glass facade really helped to have nice colors.
However, we still have some shots that are missing. Due to the high demand from the urban Project, we didn’t manage to shoot and edit all we needed. We hope we can have everything done for the exhibition that is gonna be set at Sant Adria de Besos to exhibit our work.
Another story we needed to tell was of the building, so for this we used images generated using the software Lumion. The angles were set in order to show the relation between the inner courtyard of the block and the building, but also the relation with the street. The images did not receive any post production.
