This room is ingeniously designed to cater to user comfort through an innovative grid of shaders, harnessing wind as its primary energy source to dynamically modulate light and shadow from subtle gradients to complete coverage. At its heart lie 45 turbines, poised to pivot in response to the wind generated by a hairdryer, which serves as a versatile energy conduit offering both heat and wind capabilities.

By harnessing these energies, users gain unprecedented control over the room’s ambience. They can finely tune the location of the wind source and adjust wind speed to their preference, thereby orchestrating an environment tailored precisely to their needs. Whether seeking a gentle breeze to complement a moment of relaxation or a more invigorating airflow to energize their space, the possibilities for customization are as boundless as the imagination.

Iterations – Third Machine

Narrative

Air blew from varying directions, with gradients of shade and heat emerging underneath in response to these wind currents. Where the wind blew strongest, full shade created shelter from the light and heat, and a breeze emanated from the ceiling.  Under the full shade, Lucy’s body would rest from the strong outdoor heat and humidity, easily cooling herself down. Where there was no shade, with the light and heat becoming too heavy, her skin would quickly warm and drops of sweat form. However, with a lack of breeze, the sweat drops struggled to break away from her skin to cool her down. On hot summer days, when the light and heat attempted to pierce through, the temperature reaching over 24 degrees Celsius, Lucy and her guests would sit under the areas of full shade in her patio, extending the time they could remain outside sharing dinner and in long conversations. As the day progressed and the light and heat lowered, they would drift themselves and their chairs along the gradients to catch the last rays of light and heat.
