A study held this year by the American Bird Conservancy showed that building collisions kill more than a billion birds a year only in the US. Therefore, to prevent this BirdShield serves as a responsive facade that opens and closes with servo motors based on the ultrasonic distance to flying birds.

Next Steps
- From the feedback received, I would test changing the distance sensor to a microphone or sound detector which reacts faster, hence making the facade move earlier.
- I would also like to implement the servos in a more seamless way, without the necessity of the long wooden pieces attached to them. In reality the motors would be hidden.
- In terms of the code, I would like for the facade to be able to open a bit faster, or for the sensors to be able to detect the birds from a far enough distance to allow the panels to close in time before the birds can’t recognize the glass and crash.
