PROJECT BRIEF

Site Location: Placa del Sol, Gracia, Barcelona

La Cortina introduces a nonstandard, dynamic geometry from the Fiesta Mayor de Gracia.. Conceptually, La Cortina translates the ephemeral dynamics of textile drapery into a permanent, structural shell. Its form is defined by computationally derived continuous surfaces that generate a recursive, flowing spatial volume.

The exterior finish is meticulously detailed to replicate the luminosity and tactile complexity of fine cloth, deliberately manipulating perceived mass and transparency. The minimal low threshold anchoring reinforces the illusion of suspension. La Cortina acts as a volumetric veil, compelling a new dialogue regarding the boundaries and fluid perception of public space

With the site being located at the heart of Gracia, the concept for this pavilion was derived from the renowned local festival ‘Fiesta Mayor de Gracia’, where drapery fabric gets utilized to decorate the streets. Hence, the concept aims at achieving a model which blends with the mentioned festival whole-heartedly.
