Inspired by Jordi’s Masterclass at IAAC, where he shared his experiences in robotic business and scope exploration, we’ve crafted our manifesto. This document reflects the significant insights he shared, particularly concerning entrepreneurship and startup endeavors in the construction industry. Shaping our collaborative journey into the intersection of design, technology, and construction, this manifesto outlines tailored policies and protocols aimed at driving innovation, enhancing safety, and promoting sustainability across diverse construction environments.

Principals

  • Safety First, Contextually: We prioritize safety in all robotic applications, adapting protocols to suit the specific risks and hazards present in controlled environments and construction sites. Safety measures must be contextualized to address the unique challenges of each setting, including confined spaces, uneven terrain, and proximity to heavy machinery.
  • Efficiency Through Adaptation: We acknowledge that efficiency goals may vary between controlled environments and construction sites. While controlled environments may prioritize precise automation and streamlined workflows, construction sites may focus on flexibility and adaptability to dynamic conditions. Robotics solutions should be tailored to optimize efficiency within each context.
  • Sustainability Across Settings: Robotics should be focused on contributing to minimizing waste generation, reducing energy consumption and eco-friendly construction methods for both controlled environments and construction sites.
  • Collaboration for Innovation: We believe in encouraging cooperation and knowledge sharing among stakeholders across different environments. Controlled environments can offer insights into precision engineering and advanced automation, while construction sites provide opportunities for field testing and real-world validation. By collaborating across settings, we drive holistic innovation in robotics for construction.
  • Inclusivity in Implementation: We advocate for inclusive approaches to implementing robotics solutions, considering the diverse needs and capabilities of workers in both controlled environments and construction sites. Training programs, ergonomic design considerations, and user-friendly interfaces should accommodate a wide range of users and promote accessibility across settings.

Protocols

  • Tailored Safety Protocols: Tailored safety protocols should be developed for specific sites and it should be accommodating the various site specific risks such as interaction between human and other heavy machinery.
  • Adaptive Regulatory Compliance: Regulatory Compliance should be flexible enough to accommodate the different and diverse applications of robotic manufacturing while ensuring the safety and quality standards.
  • Context-Aware Data Ethics: We emphasize the importance of ethical data practices that consider the context of data collection and usage in both controlled environments and construction sites. Privacy concerns, data security measures, and transparency in data handling should be addressed with sensitivity to the unique privacy and security challenges posed by each setting.
  • Targeted Skills Development: We are targeted skills development initiatives that equip workers with the specialized knowledge that were required for robotics operation and maintenance in both collaborative environments and construction sites. Training programs should be customized to address the specific challenges and tasks encountered in each site, ensuring workforce are prepared in every situation.
  • Risk Management Flexibility: We promote risk management protocols that are adaptable to any given conditions and uncertainties of both controlled environments and construction sites. alternative plans, risk assessments, and moderate strategies should be customized  to address the different operational risks and challenges inherent to each situation, enabling proactive risk management and response.

Conclusion

By embracing the principles and protocols outlined in this manifesto, stakeholders commit to harnessing the transformative potential of robotics to drive innovation, enhance safety, and promote sustainability across diverse construction settings. Together, a future emerges where robotics revolutionizes construction practices, improving efficiency, and advancing the well-being of workers and communities alike. Let the implementation of these measures be a testament to our collective dedication to progress and excellence.”
