Project Brief

Barcelona faces overlapping pressures: migration, demographic shift, and housing scarcity, that demand housing which can absorb change rather than resist it. InBetween proposes a transitional housing system based on Poblenou’s Cerdà blocks: not a fixed building, but a rule-based system that generates adaptable dwellings around the chamfered-block courtyard logic the city already knows. The name marks the condition it serves, residents in between places, households in between sizes, a building in between permanence and flux.

Objectives for Optimization

  • To Optimize the floor area for increasing the dwelling population within the floating housing units inside the Cerda Block.
  • To Optimize the Terrace Area of each Block that is not covered by another over the top
  • Appropriate iterations to regulate the incident sun hours on the courtyard.(LadyBug)
  • Form finding also allows us to regulate terrace area through incident radiation analysis (LadyBug)
  • To optimize its overall form through incident radiation analysis (LadyBug)
