CONCEPT

Plaça de George Orwell, a historically and socially complex urban space in Barcelona, serves as the foundation for our pavilion, Nestscape. Inspired by the triangular geometry of the plaza, the design emerges as a modular, porous canopy that interacts with human and avian movement alike.

The pavilion responds to the site’s historical evolution—from a contested public space under constant surveillance to a revitalized area for communal interaction. The perforations in the structure serve a dual purpose: allowing natural light to filter through and providing nesting spaces for urban birds. The triangulated shell structure is strategically open and closed to guide pedestrian flow, creating shaded social spaces while preserving visibility and accessibility.

Conceptually, Nestscape embodies the dual themes of freedom and surveillance, echoing George Orwell’s legacy. The interplay of solid and void, opacity and transparency, mirrors the tension between observation and refuge.
