Geometric Paper Sculptures by Anna Kruhelska
CONCEPT
The facade can be understood as a scaled-up, architectural expression of origami principles. Its design transforms static elements into an active, engaging interface between the built environment and its observers. Modular, geometric patterns and an emphasis on light modulation, create an interplay between openness, lighting, and transparency.
Merging principles through:
MODULARITY
Origami Concept: Suggesting endless combinations or patterns for adaptability.
IMA Concept: Each modular unit function with diaphragms, with their square openings acting as dynamic elements to respond to environmental conditions.
KINETICS
Origami Concept: Offering a “living” facade that appears to change in response to light and user movement.
IMA Concept: The rotating openings create intricate patterns of light and shadow that shift throughout the day. Kinetic elements to allow users or environmental conditions to influence the opening and closing of these modules.
MATERIALITY
The tessellated forms, inspired by paper folds, may use materials like metal or composites that echo the lightness and precision of folded paper.
