Concept
Ventilation systems are designed to move air, and they typically have filters to prevent large objects from entering. However, small animals can sometimes find their way into ventilation systems through openings or ducts. Apart from these closed ventilation systems there are also cases such as as industrial exhaust fans which are placed typically high above the human field of view and hence detection of small creatures such as birds before the powering up of these fans is often overlooked.
Hence the proposal of a locked access ventilation system which checks for obstructions before power delivery.

Future steps
- A further developed prototype with optimized power supply to also power a LED screen
- Creation of product which is a retrofitting solution in existing buildings which use exhaust systems
- Addition of more ways of authorization (i.e – code, NFC and biometrics)
- Implementation of additional more advanced sensors
- Implementation of actuator systems which detect critters and scare them away from these areas for their safety
- Implementation of a phone app automation system which uses e-authorization.
