The Zephyr Project is tackling a problem that we all know too well:
the heat in our cities is getting crazy
Over 50% of our survey participants (n=30) suffer from extreme heat and worry about high UV levels every other day in summer, and I’m sure you all can relate.
That’s especially true if you’re a Young professional. They are living dynamic, hyper-social lives that often happen outside. These people drive our cities heartbeats, and are willing to spend money for fashionable, comfortable and highly functional clothing.
In the core of our brand, we want to protect the urban heartbeat by providing personal cooling styles, that help navigate hot urbans day in cooler confidence. This is achieved by our first product, the Active Cooling Jacket Type Zero. But how do we deliver on such an ambitious product goal?
We started with extensive material research, and identified two leading technologies from the work- and sportswear industry. Graphene coated textiles and Phase Changing Materials, called PCMs.
In our inner layer, PCM materials absorb the wearers excess body heat by changing its phase from hard to liquid cooling the skin temperature down to a comfortable level for around 4 hours. It gets „charged“ when its in a room that is under 21 degrees.
Graphene comes in place in our outer layer, reflecting the Sun’s harmful UV-rays as well as blocking the outer heat, adding to the cooling effect of the PCM.
This results in a jacket, that brings innovative Technologies from the industrial space into the lifestyle look of urban spaces. Something that hasn‘t been introduced into the fashion industry yet!
