INTRODUCTION
We selected as the study area a part of the eastern area of Catalonia, 3673 square kilometers. The project focuses on the soil permeability decrease because of the green loss. Furthermore, the lack of water percolation as a consequence of excess water run is likely to occur at the risk areas. For the Green loss analysis, we visualized the green density of the area with the use of a mesh, where dark cells represent high levels of density, while the light ones the low green density areas with the highest risk of permeability. For the visualization of the areas with the highest permeability risk, we used the shape of tears, as a metaphor tool for communication between risk areas and waters. The larger size of the tears indicates the highest risk of the area, while the slope of the shape indicates the stream’s flow direction.
THE GAME
TOPOGRAPHY OF TEARS is a fun and educational game for children to understand the dangers of floods and the impact of low soil permeability. In this game, players are tasked with tapping the flooded areas to shrink them, but after a while, they will grow again. The faster the players tap, the higher their score will be. This game not only provides entertainment but also serves as a tool to educate children on the risks associated with floods and the importance of permeable soil
Game Instructions
- Start the game by tapping the “START” button on the screen.
- The game screen will display a map of the flooded areas.
- Your goal is to reduce the size of the flood by tapping the flooded areas as fast as possible.
- Each time you tap on a flood area, it will shrink. But be careful, as the flood area will grow again after a particular time.
- Keep tapping on the flood areas as fast as you can to reduce the size of the flood and earn points.
- The score will be displayed on the screen at the end of the game.
- The game ends when the flood area covers the entire map.
- Try to beat your high score and challenge your friends to beat it too.
CONCLUSION
The “Topography of Tears” educational game is an effective tool for teaching children about the dangers of permeable areas and the floods that can result from them. This game can be played both at home and in a classroom setting, offering a fun and interactive learning experience for children of various ages.
