Concept

The twisting geometry of the tower was developed through parametric modeling and generative design, where Wallacei was used to evaluate and optimize multiple iterations. The goal was to identify the twist angle and floorplate rotation that would maximize unobstructed view corridors for surrounding buildings, while maintaining functionality and architectural integrity.

Objective:

To design a high-rise tower with a distinctive twisting form that enhances the quality of views from surrounding buildings, rather than prioritizing only the internal views. The twist is not purely aesthetic; it is strategically optimized using Wallacei, an evolutionary multi-objective optimization engine, to deliver measurable urban benefits.

Inspiration

Grove at Grand Bay, Miami, FL, United States

BIG took indigenous elements of the new Miami skyline and continued the evolution of their local architectural language. This project “re-groves” the heart of Coconut Grove, and creates a landscape made to be in tune with its surroundings. The two towers of the Grove at Grand Bay respond to the surroundings and to each other to give optimum views at every level.
