Set on an old train station site at the heart of Damascus, one that previously linked the Old and New city together, we are proposing a market that revives the site of the Hijaz and bridges the two sides of the city back together. The project consists of a system of modules that aggregate together forming a terraced landscape. For our structural studies, we worked on a structural analysis for the module, followed by a series of optimization studies for the module’s dimensions. The study later looked at the combination of modules and how they work together. We analyzed the structure, performed cross section optimization studies, and further compared the behavior of different materials with our design. The final step was also to go through a series of optimization studies by exploring a variety of subdivisions for our grid.
