Acoustic is the field of physics studying the mechanics of waves such as vibrations, sounds, ultra- and infra-sounds. Room acoustic is a sub-branch focusing on the behavior of sound in a room. The following diagrams showcase the acoustic reflection from the ceiling of the Valldaura lab basement. In both drawings, the initial sound is initialized from the center of the room and visualized in blue. The reflected sound wave is colored in a gradient from red to green to interpret the decibels going from high to low respectively.

The 3D model represents the sound level from the initial point that was reflected from the ceiling. The diagram shows both ground and ceiling representation of the decibels by using the same color gradient as the diagram above.

By doing these diagrams, I’ve learned how to visualize a scientific concept in a clear and concise way. It allowed me to discover techniques to describe sound in two different manners, both representing the same data. Additionally, this assignment has taught me how to use Rhinoceros to make drawings in a clear way. It is another step towards architecture.
