The script relies on the organic undulation of sine and catenary curves to reflect the organic nature of our inspiration as well as provide a real-life simulation of the suspended fabric forming the canopy reacting to gravitational logic in both a relaxed and taut state both radially and along the tree perimeter.

Final Design
Drawing on rainforest layers of emergent, canopy, and understory, our pavilion consists of modular tree structures at varying heights.

Inspired by the etymology of the word “pavilion” from latin, ‘papilio’ meaning butterfly and tent, our narrative reflects the element of shelter and the mechanical dynamics of a butterfly’s wing motion.
pavilion /pəˈvɪl.jən/ noun
Origin: Middle French pavillon, from Latin papilio “butterfly, tent,” referencing the early tent-like forms of such structures.
