manifesto
This project focuses on designing manufacturing protocols for integrating CDW-Brick in architectural applications, by programming a geopolymer material system, with controlled porosity and density. The goal is to develop functionally graded elements that respond to building performances (lightweightness, thermal insulation, etc) while acting as decarbonization tools of the building industry.
The design process of the “boutique facade” develops customised 3d printed frames of panels, which will later be casted with the developed geopolymer materials. The optimization process unfolds in two stages. At first the overall facade system is deformed by optimizing its’ radiation, displacement and structural utilization. Then each panel is evaluated, in order to reach a material distribution that takes into consideration the results of the previous analysis, while optimizing its weight and cost.
