During the second year of the Master in Advanced Architecture + Thesis Project (MAA02), students have the unique opportunity to work for a period of 1 year on an Individual Thesis Project, focused on the development of a research or pilot project based on the student’s interest, and the learnings of the first year. IAAC supports the student in selecting their Thesis Project topic in order to better orient them according to their future career interests and opportunities. Each student, according to their specific topic, is assigned one or more Thesis Advisors that follow the development of the work throughout the year.
In parallel to the development of the Individual Thesis Project, the second year of the MAA02 offers a series of seminars enhancing the theoretical, practical and computational skills of the students.
Augmented & Mixed Reality
This studio explores the possibility of using AR in architecture with Unity. Living parts is a thesis focusing on the use of Biomaterials in Architectural Elements to sequester environmental carbon dioxide. Unity is used here to map the data from the CO2 sensor to Unity and see the data collected with the help of a … Read more
Customizing comfort
From parts to purpose – embracing circularity by redefining furniture composition Problem In contemporary furniture markets there is a problem of the environmental impact caused by inefficient design, excessive waste generation, and unsustainable consumption. Results are overproduction, resource depletion, and high carbon emissions during production processes. Additionally, limited design solutions don’t fully meet user needs, … Read more
Trav-a-live
Context Inter Disciplinary In this project, we explore the intersection of digital nomadism, autonomous mobility, and AI-enabled sensing technology. Inspired by thinkers like Tsugio Makimoto, Pierluigi Coppola, and Tim Ferriss, we aim to create an autonomous living space that supports a mobile, remote work lifestyle. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the rise of digital nomadism, … Read more
The Adjunct Amphibian
Amphibious attachment systems for existing stilt houses to counteract flash floods along the Brahmaputra river plains in Assam, India Context The river Brahmaputra, with one of the largest tributary systems in the world, divides the state of Assam into almost two halves. This means that a large geographical area in Assam is prone to floods and … Read more

Neuro-Sensitive Spatial Biophilia
We are daily exposed to negative environments and situations in our daily lives, such as city noise, spending a lot of time indoors, lack of greenery, and long working hours. Studies have shown that we spend 35 hours per week in such conditions and that stress is a major cause of illnesses. The best stress … Read more
“Cura Salada” – Robotic Spatial Printing of Salt-Clay Composites for Healthy Vernacular Habitats
Research Introduction Poor quality health services is an emerging phenomenon in various countries. The situation is worse in low income countries where 10 percent of hospitalized patients can acquire an infection during their stay versus 7 percent in high income countries. Disinfecting healthcare facilities is a crucial aspect in order to reduce this phenomenon. Therefore … Read more

PASSIVE ABSORPTION AND RETENTION SYSTEM OF RAINWATER IN NON-ORTHOGONAL BUILDINGS with the understanding of the internal structure needed for materiality is fundamental to applied the logic in a natural based materiality by analysing materials that are absorbent and sustainable. Even having a materiality that allows absorbtion of water its fundamental for the design to help … Read more
WOODEN MOSAIC
Wooden Mosaic tries to tackle the increasing global demand for timber by using waste branches from Timber industries. These waste branches are transformed into modular blocks with conventional tools, offering a sustainable supplement to the current timber industry. Using the waste wood, the aim IS to decrease the environmental impact associated with logging and wood … Read more
Neuroimmersive Space: User-Centric Adaptive AI-Generated Virtual NeuroArchitecture
Our surroundings influence our cognitive-emotional processes and shape our physical, psychological, and social well-being in a variety of ways every day. Can neurotechnology and VR technology help us in conceiving user-centric adaptive spatial experiences, where both the space and the user are in a constant mutation—a continuous feedback loop and the space itself becomes an active … Read more
