WORKSHOP 3.2

STONE AND CODE is a robotic column sculpture that combines natural stone construction with computational fabrication. Using two robotic systems, one robot prints the column layers while the other places digitally scanned stones into the structure. Around 40% of each stone remains exposed, creating a raw and natural texture.

Pathways through Barcelona and Gaudí-inspired forms, combining flowing geometries with textured materiality, the project reinterprets ancient building methods through digital manufacturing. The column consists of a predefined base and capital, while the body remains variable in height, diameter, texture, and stone distribution.

Idea 2 – Printing and Packing

Stones are selected and placed on the base layer, standing out a bit to form a natural border

Camera scans stones and the robot distributes clay accordingly to compensate for the stones´ differences

The clay is smoothened and the next stones are selected
