In the heart of Barcelona’s ecological transition, the project at Carrer de Pere IV, 380, embodies a vision of regenerative design that breathes life into the site, offering a diverse array of ecological services. It’s a living showcase of ecological culture, an oasis in the heart of cities where challenges like CO2 emissions, heat islands, and diminishing green spaces converge.

The project aims to bridge vital connections, acting as ecosystem nurturers, restoring benefits eroded by urbanisation. Fueled by water and vegetation, it serves as portals to nature, reintroducing urbanities to seasonality and multi-species integration. In this paradigm, urban green spaces prioritise health and vitality, returning power to the people while fostering urban ecological resilience.

Plantation for Interspecies Engagement: The vision emphasizes the creation of spaces where native flora and fauna coexist harmoniously, fostering a connection with nature.

Water Management: At the core of our ecological commitment is the mastery of water management, optimizing resources while embracing sustainability.

A Regenerative Ecological System: The project establishes an ecosystem, restoring ecological benefits that urbanisation has eroded over time.

Open Air Terrarium and Gathering Spaces: Drawing inspiration from Carrer de Pere IV’s industrial legacy, the project crafts open-air terrariums, education and communal spaces, fostering community bonds and vitality.

CONTEXTUAL HISTORY – ANALYSIS

Carrer De Pere IV, once the industrial axis of Barcelona, has evolved from agricultural roots to an industrial zone, eventually losing its identity amidst deindustrialization and globalisation. 

With the current pace of developments in the area, there’s a urgent need to prioritise ecology and address the social demand for recreation on this void of a space.

The summary of our analysis results in the strategy, that builds a circular water infrastructure from the condensation process to create a regenerative cycle and uses vegetation tactically to maximise water efficiency and buffer noise and air pollution.

The fold is a sum up of layers that are overlapping: the folding geometry, the pipe system that is cooling the geometry, the wood frame that keeps the pipe system in place and lastly the program of the project.
