Within the current global context of rapid change, integrated with the potentials of digital technologies, IAAC’s Master in Advanced Architecture (MAA) is committed to the generation of new ideas and applications for Urban Design, Self Sufficiency, Digital Manufacturing Techniques and Advanced Interaction.

In this context IAAC works with a multidisciplinary approach, facing the challenges posed by our environment and the future development of cities, architecture and buildings, through a virtuous combination of technology, biology, computational design, digital and robotic fabrication, pushing innovation beyond the boundaries of a more traditional architectural approach.

GENETIC OPTIMIZATION –Travel Through

Manifesto To design a shaded walkway on a sloped terrain, with hardscapes and softscapes as obstacles. Developing a evolutionary algorithm(Wallacei) to define a shortest path(DG) that adaptes the shape with environmental data(LB) and physics solver(KG2) such that the design is hormonus with the nature(CA).  Finding Best Location for maximum view Finding the shortest path

Genetic Optimization: Assignment 3 The project aims to provide the most optimal solution to maximize the shading of this housing project. The algorithm reflects the process of natural selection where each individuals are selected for the reproduction in order to produce descendant of the next generation. Through the exploration of Ladybug and Galapagos, we can … Read more

Aperture Building This project is based on a design that was developed in the Self-Sufficient Buildings studio.Main concerns: visibility of surrounding site and sun exposure.Using Grasshopper, we were able to optimize the structure’s placement on the site and shape in relation to visibility and solar radiation.Phase 1: SiteThe first objective was to optimize the structure’s … Read more

VOXELS – Genetic Optimization

The goal of this project was to create a city grid as a counter-plan to the man-made island that is the Lynetteholm proposal off the coast of Copenhagen. – We optimized our floating city to maximize solar radiation in Copenhagen’s dark winters. – We optimized public space so it can be a minimal, accessible distance away from … Read more

Genetic Optimisation- Pixel District

Abstract In the current era the “future” becomes an increasingly uncertain question. Huge projects are being built right now all over the world supported mainly on the interests of Real Estate speculation. This capitalist driven urban expansion relies on a specific typology: the Skyscraper. Simultaneously, the world population continues to increase, focusing on the urban. … Read more

Kniphofia Community Amphitheater

Manifesto “ This proposal aims to envision and promote the establishment of inclusive public spaces in these densely inhabited regions where leisure opportunities are presently limited in Cape Town, our proposition strives to embrace and empower these marginalized communities, cultivating a sense of belonging and furnishing public spaces for recreation and social cohesion.” Location Territorial … Read more

The function of this intervention is to be able to stay there for 24 hours (day/night), and 365 days (4 seasons)PHENOMENA: heatPROPOSAL: design a building, which use hot air and evaporative cooling to create a passive ventilation system PROJECT … Read more

Genetic Optimization

Project Manifesto The project explores three main topics that represent a global concern within the present times: growing population, climate crisis and food production. Following these concepts, the main intervention is based on designing a city of the future, located in the actual site of Copenhagen’s North Harbor. In the past 10 years, the population … Read more

Genetic Optimization – Aquasun Oasis AquaSun Oasis is a continuation proposal for the digital matters research studio project which focuses on rainwater purification through biodegradable materials. The design of the form is based on rainwater collection and renewable solar energy while providing shade to the surroundings. The is to create a sustainable solution to conserve … Read more

DESIRE – DESIgn for REassembly

Abstract The project’s purpose is to design two different proposals where bricks and timber if cross-section 45mmx90mm are used as materials for both constructions. A study of fabrication process, creating connections and ways of assembly-disassembly structures. Proposal A CONCEPTBrick and Timber Concept Design – V3 Digital Exploration Design objective: Use the same amount of material … Read more

Discrete Assemblies

TWO COLUMNS ABSTRACT In this course we explored the strategies of modular construction using Gilles Retsin’s modules. Through strategies of stacking and post-tensioning we explored the opportunities and limitations of the module. We began by assembling the module and constructing a beam element where we pushed the limitations of maunal post tensioning. Afterwards, using Midjourney … Read more

CatenARy

Augmented reality fabrication protocol for linkage networks CatenARy is an innovative project that aims to create a highly interactive and immersive design experience, allowing users to visualize and manipulate complex linkage networks in tree-dimensional space. The system also incorporates a fabrication protocol that streamlines the manufacturing process, reducing material waste and improving the overall efficiency … Read more

Beyond Verticality

An Exquisite Corpse Report on Urban Form ABSTRACT IntroductionWith our work in this term we produced a multitude of drawings and images, watched and analyzed multiple movies, read multiple texts and came up with iterations and speculations. The common through line of all of these was the exploration of the nature of beyond-vertical forms of … Read more
