SITE PLAN & ANALYSIS

STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS

The building has a total footprint of about 50 meters per 37 meters. The typical grid is of 8.4m, and becomes smaller towards the edge of the slabs. The core is centered with the grid and it is of about 16,8m x 12,6m. It occupies about the 12-15% of the total slab surface.
The slabs have a different size and from one floor to the other the slab edge may be offset as a maximum of 4.2 m in the Y direction, while in the X direction only a small offset can be found. The maximum distance of the slab edges from the core is 16,8m in the Y direction.
The slab are supported on the edges, externally from the main column grid, by a frame of steel elements . Columns, stability walls, beams and slabs are in concrete.

LOADS

The following loads were considered:

  • Permanent loads for the roof enclosure and the facade
  • A live load of 2kN/m2, taking into account the residential use of the building
  • Snow load
  • Wind loads

The building is located in Iceland, in Reykjavikhe, closed to the coast. Wind and the snow loads are calculated according to the Eurocode 1.
The wind was considered in the windward face, on the sides and in the leeward face.
