Climate Analysis and Design Optimisation
Our project site is Singapore which is located in Southeast Asia. We chose Marina Bay area as our project site.
The climate in Singapore is generally hot and humid as shown in the climate analysis below.
From the sun path, the sun travels directly overhead throughout the year with high solar radiation during mid day.
In regards to thermal comfort, design strategies to enhance thermal comfort include natural ventilation and external shading elements or structures.
The prevailing wind directions are primarily from northeast and south/southwest directions.
Through CFD analysis, the Northeast prevailing wind flows through our twisted structure and creates a good wind shadow on the south side of the building.
When the prevailing wind comes from the South/Southwest, it flows up through the open plaza to provide good wind comfort for outdoor activities.
We also analysed UTCI as well as a high wind speed scenario to understand the effect of trees.
In summary, throughout the design analysis process, we are able to provide a twisted self shading design with optimised external shading. Trees provide both shading comfort and wind comfort for outdoor pedestrian and activity zones. The open plaza receives good natural ventilation design throughout the year.
