General Description:
ADU stands for Accessory Dwelling Unit. ADUs are becoming very popular in the United States, as a way for homeowners to build an additional(s) living unit in plots zoned for single-family use. Whether used for other family members or as rental units, they are a great alternative for individuals to build additonal dwellings in their property.
ADU Generator is an app, developed with Three.js and Vue, with the use of Grasshopper and Rhino.Compute, designed to help homeowners visualize where in their plot they can build an ADU.
The app is intended for homeowners and non design-professionals, as an effort democratize design. By creating sliders that move the proposed ADU up/down & left/right along the property, as well as a strech slider in which the ADU stretches horizontally and vertically, the user can visualize different options of where they can build, and how it relates to its context, particularly any existing residences on-site.
In addition, inputs such as area and construction costs measured in dollars/sq.ft., give the user additional information to help them make better informed decisions.
Parameters and Inputs:
Parameters: up/down, left/right, area, stretch in the horizontal or vertical direction. dollars per square foot, city, and existing building height.
Input: Property lot outline, existing house outline (.3dm file).
