“When light scenography meet architecture”
.Manifesto.
This pavilion is conceived as an immersive scenographic installation that merges architectural geometry, lighting design, and environmental interaction. At its core, the project explores the dynamic relationship between form, light, and water, transforming the structure into a performative space that engages visitors through a carefully choreographed visual experience.
The pavilion’s primary form is composed of a lattice of diamond-shaped elements, meticulously designed to create a striking architectural presence while serving as the foundation for its scenographic narrative. Integrated within this lattice are a series of linear LED lights, whose arrangement emphasizes the rhythm and geometry of the structure. When dry, the lighting system operates in a linear and precise pattern, reinforcing the clarity and order of the architectural design. The illuminated lines highlight the interplay of light and shadow, subtly drawing attention to the depth and texture of the pavilion.
The scenography transforms when rain interacts with the pavilion. The LED system shifts from static illumination to a dynamic, responsive performance. The lights pulsate, flicker, and activate in a randomized yet deliberate sequence, simulating the organic flow and movement of water. This choreographed interplay of light mimics ripples and droplets cascading across the pavilion, blurring the boundary between the artificial and the natural. The lighting is not merely decorative but becomes an atmospheric medium, evoking the ephemeral qualities of rain and its capacity to transform the perception of space.
The experience extends beyond the pavilion itself, as the interplay of light and water creates shimmering reflections on the surrounding wet surfaces, amplifying the scenographic effect. Visitors are immersed in an environment where the pavilion’s response to rain becomes a performance, enveloping them in a multisensory narrative that celebrates the fleeting beauty of natural phenomena. This project positions scenography as an integral part of the architectural language, crafting a spatial experience that evolves with its context, blurring the line between structure, environment, and perception.
