Digital  Transformation  of  Discarded  Logs  for  Structural  and  Design  Applications

Re_Shape is a design and innovation project that addresses a major blind spot in the forestry industry: the waste of tree trunks that are curved, bifurcated, or otherwise irregular and therefore excluded from traditional processing systems. These logs are typically downgraded into low-value products like firewood or wood chips. Re_Shape changes that by giving these neglected materials a second life through a highly technological and creative process.

Using 3D scanning, robotic kerfing, and precision milling, we analyze and transform each irregular log into unique and valuable pieces. Some of these are curated in a catalog, ready to be integrated into architectural projects, while others are developed fully customized in collaboration with designers and clients. This makes Re_Shape both a materials platform and a co-creation tool for high-impact, sustainable design.

Our core clients are architects, designers, and construction firms that are committed to originality, sustainability, and storytelling in their projects. With Re_Shape, they gain access to exclusive materials that embody environmental consciousness and aesthetic uniqueness.

The project creates value at multiple levels: it reduces forestry waste, creates new revenue streams from underutilized materials, promotes innovation in design, and raises awareness about circular practices. By collaborating with forestry companies, tech providers, and research institutions, we ensure a viable and scalable system.

Re_Shape is currently in the proof of concept phase (TRL 3), validating its methods, prototyping with real materials, and engaging first users. The next steps involve technical validation, pilot projects, and building an ecosystem that connects material sources with designers seeking meaningful alternatives.

We believe the future of construction and design is rooted in sustainable transformation. Re_Shape is here to reshape what the industry sees as waste into lasting architectural impact.

Re_Shape develops a sustainable and innovative business model that transforms discarded tree trunks into high-value architectural materials. Through advanced robotic processing and strategic partnerships, it connects forestry waste with designers and construction professionals seeking unique and eco-conscious solutions. The project creates value by combining technology, circular economy principles, and creative customization, generating both environmental impact and commercial potential.

The product mind map outlines the full ecosystem of our offering — from raw discarded materials to the final customized design pieces. It visualizes the product journey through key components like material sourcing, technological transformation, catalog curation, and custom client solutions. This structure helps communicate how different elements connect to deliver value in a scalable, sustainable, and design-driven way.

Re_Shape targets creative and sustainability-driven professionals who seek to integrate unique materials into their projects. Our core customers—architects, designers, and builders—are looking for more than just raw materials; they seek storytelling, identity, and impact. By aligning with these values, Re_Shape offers not just a product, but a meaningful design experience rooted in innovation and circularity.

The journey began with identifying an overlooked resource in the forestry industry and exploring its design potential. Early research and concept development laid the foundation for testing. Currently in TRL 3, the project is validating its processes through small-scale prototypes and early collaborations. The next steps will focus on laboratory validation, pilot projects in real contexts, and scaling up toward full commercialization—ensuring both technical maturity and market readiness.
