“First Life, then Spaces, then Buildings, the other way around never works” Jan Gehl

The proposal is an intervention at the site situated in Diagonal Mar, neighborhood, inspired from the fundamental idea of Placemaking. The intervention goes beyond development, aiming to activate the site and create a vibrant community. Grounded in functionality, the approach centers on communal integrity, fostering a dynamic dialogue among users.

To uplift the site, the project tries to instill life and purpose by creating Vistas of visual accesses to create a nexus of focal points. It is not just about physical space but a catalyst for interaction— expected to be a symphony of ideas and experiences. Recognizing health concerns and air quality degradation in Barcelona, the project commits to create a thriving biome with pure and invigorating air, extending our responsibility beyond the site to the city.

The project is an exploration to create communal synergy, and environmental stewardship for forging a path towards a brighter, healthier future for Diagonal Mar.

The site is Situated in Barcelona, running with The Avinguda Diagonal in Parallel

RESEARCH QUESTION

How can an urban site serve as a magnet to be activated as people’s place that creates a symbiotic relationship between a contrasting set of users in its context?

PLACEMAKING

Incorporating placemaking into our project involves engaging the community to create a vibrant, inclusive space that reflects their needs and aspirations, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging while enhancing the area’s unique identity and functionality. By integrating local culture, art, and design, we aim to transform the space into a dynamic hub that enriches people’s experiences and strengthens social connections.

Air Purification using Titanium dioxide, which defines the filtration of particulate matter & pollutants, using ionisation of chemical compounds with the help of heat from the solar radiation. This causes the unwanted particles to settle on the oxide which can be further washed away. The slits promote air movements with strategic intervention of creating a dynamic volume.
