Located in the quiet community of Sant Adria De Besos lies the Besos Power Station. This waste to energy power plant is responsible for providing power to over 10 municipalities of Spain and takes care of nearly half of the waste that comes into Barcelona. While this factory proves to be highly effective, several negative effects continue to affect the surrounding ecology and community, creating a toxic and unattractive site.
Looking to the year of 2050, we are reimaging the site with inspiration from the professor and philosopher Timothy Morton who founded “Dark Ecology”. This concept’s main drive is to: “inspire designs that don’t hide or sanitize but rather integrate and repurpose industrial scars/toxic sites, promoting spaces where people and the environment thrive in mutually beneficial ways”
Through rigorous analysis and extensive research into current technologies and what is to come, we were able to convert the current system process to rewild and reintegrate the site into the urban fabric.
We are crafting architecture that lives and grows, inspiring, flourishing, and sustaining all forms of life.
