“Cool As a Cucumber”

It’s easy to overheat. Whether you’re exercising, spending time outdoors, or even sitting in a poorly ventilated room, one can find their body temperatures rising to uncomfortably high levels. You might even experience heat stroke, dehydration, and other dangerous side effects from significant exposure to the heat. The concept of this device is simple – … Read more

Introduction to Digital Fabrication

Group Z.2 Origami – LASER CUTTING Taking inspiration from light-filtering facade systems such as that of the SDU Campus Kolding by Henning Larsen, Al Bahr Towers by AEDAS, and the Japan Pavilion for Expo 2020 by Yuko Nagayama and Associates, ORIGAMI is a facade prototype composed of a grid system to host panels or ‘flowers’ … Read more

Urban Pollution Mapper

CONCEPT The project was designed to be an urban furniture that maps the city’s pollutions: air pollution and sound pollution. It is a design installation that aims social awareness regarding the environment people are exposed to in big and busy city centers. The benches’ side lights, triggered by the air quality sensor, are always on, … Read more

SMART Sunlight Tracking Plant Pot

BRIEF The idea of the assignment is to use 2 sensors and 1 actuator in Arduino to create a working system. CONCEPT The project aims to create an intelligent plant pot system that employs sensors to gather environmental data, an Arduino to process and analyze this data, and a motor to physically adjust the plant … Read more

Digital Fabrication

Group Y1 A series of experiments, to reflect on internality, movements away from the outside and to look upon it. A swift movement which engulfs you, a series of lines to project your light through, an open face held in deep space by many arms.  There is nothing outside to look at, if you don’t … Read more

Pro-critter ventilation access system

Concept Ventilation systems are designed to move air, and they typically have filters to prevent large objects from entering. However, small animals can sometimes find their way into ventilation systems through openings or ducts. Apart from these closed ventilation systems there are also cases such as as industrial exhaust fans which are placed typically high … Read more

The Way Of Water

As an underlying theme we chose to explore the various movements of water, as a catalyst that drives each of our fabrication process. Laser Cut – Oscillation | 3D Printing – Coral Growth | CNC Milling – Ripple Effect   LASER CUTTING | OSCILLATION The concept behind this design gets its inspiration from oscillating waves … Read more

ThermalAxis

Vertical structure responsive to temperature changes CONCEPT The project proposes a vertical system that responds to temperature differences to visualize these changes interactively. Its main objective is to create diverse interactions with users through the response to temperature changes. The foundation of the system relies on the use of flexible membranes that expand and compress, … Read more

VERTICAL SYSTEMS

Over the span of the Digital Fabrication course, we actively explored and examined the possibilities and constraints inherent in the three fabrication methodologies concerning both design and manufacturing. Throughout this process, we conducted experiments involving various materials and machines, employing CNC Milling, Laser Cutting, and 3D Printing techniques. Our aim was to gain a comprehensive … Read more

The Dancing Window

The Interactive Architectural Facade Concept The Interactive Proximity Window is a smart window system designed to respond to human presence. Integrated motion sensors detect when someone approaches or moves away from the window. When an individual comes close to the window, a series of mechanisms are triggered, causing the window to automatically slide rotate based … Read more

Introduction to Digital Fabrication

MOVEMENTSThe ideation revolved around exploring the nature of movements, as they express themselves in environment, forms, dimensions and spaces. Humans perceive this notion as a bridge to liveliness & entropy. The studio, ‘Introduction to Digital Fabrication’, aimed at understanding fabrication dialogues through the technology of Laser Cutting, 3D Printing & CNC Milling, where these projects were developed. … Read more

NatureFlow: Smart Wildlife Crossing

Addressing the complex issues arising from climate change, urbanization, and human encroachment into natural habitats necessitates the establishment of harmonious interactions between humans and wildlife.Implementing thoughtful strategies can mitigate potential conflicts, safeguard biodiversity, and promote ecological connectivity.  Wildlife bridges are structures built over roads and  fragmented landscapes to enable animals to safely cross from one … Read more

GasWatch

Welcome, to the project that aims to redefine home safety through the implementation of a Smart Gas Detection System. This project focuses on ensuring the well-being of your household in a smarter, more intuitive way. In this vision of a safer home, the project introduces a Smart Gas Detection System, which plays a pivotal role … Read more

Material Waves – Digital Fabrication

In this class we were introduced to three fabrication techniques, Laser Cutting, 3D printing and CNC milling. In each technique we were tasked with creating prototypes of vertical facade elements that could be used in architectural applications. Every two weeks of the course we learned how to use each technology and then fabricated our own … Read more
